A mobile app for learning foreign languages by listening to and watching dialogues. We designed the interface, the app animation and the presentation, and worked out the mechanics and use cases.
Challenge
The app needed an interface that does not look like other language apps, plus more mechanics and more everyday situations to learn from.
Approach
We drew the interface in a soft neumorphic style, light surfaces with gentle depth, and animated the key transitions for the presentation, so the app could be shown in motion.
Lessons from real situations
The main page shows lessons in progress, playlists such as work, travel and cafes, and favourite dialogues. A topic like travel opens into short scenes: a chat at a bus stop, checking into a hotel, hitchhiking, a cruise.
A dialogue as a scene
Each dialogue plays as a chat over an animated scene. Under the chat sit controls for audio, the microphone and the subtitle language, and a player to rewind and replay the scene. Any phrase opens a grammar view with transcription, the part of speech for each word and a short rule with examples.
