Interface concepts for Spectacles, Snapchat's glasses with lenses and services. We designed a more detailed and adaptive version of the interface for chats, playlists and everyday features, animated it into a presentation and built prototypes.
Challenge
Make the interface of the glasses more detailed and adaptive: messages, music and the features people use every day, all of it readable over the real world.
Approach
We designed four flows: notifications, replies, a music player and Discover with stories. The street stays in view behind every screen, and each flow has its own small set of gestures.
Notifications and replies
Gestures
Swipe down closes, swipe back and forward moves between buttons or messages, swipe up opens the full list, and a tap triggers the button lit in Snapchat yellow. A reply can be a heart, a thumbs up, a voice note, text or a quick phrase. In the player a double tap likes a song.
Music and Discover
Presentation and prototypes
For some flows we compared two or three options side by side, then animated the screens into a presentation and built prototypes to try them.
Outcome
The concept helped collect feedback on whether people need a product like this.
